Forfatterbiografi

Thomas Pynchon (født 8. maj 1937) er en amerikansk roman- og novelleforfatter, ofte placeret i postmodernismen. Han kendes for en stringent, men legende prosa, hvor historiske begivenheder, videnskab, politik og kunst væves sammen til store, ironiske fortællinger om magt, paranoia og samfundets skjulte mekanismer. Pynchons gennembrud kom med romanerne The Crying of Lot 49 (1966) og Gravity’s Rainbow (1973), der gjorde ham til en central skikkelse i efterkrigstidens amerikanske litteratur. For Gravity’s Rainbow modtog han National Book Award i 1974, og han blev senere tildelt MacArthur Fellowship. Med Inherent Vice (2009) fortsatte han sit særlige univers af kriminalintriger, kulturligheder og satire, denne gang sat ind i et Los Angeles præget af 1960’ernes efterklang.
