Forfatterbiografi

Simone Weil (født 3. februar 1909 i Paris, død 24. august 1943 i Ashford, Kent) var en fransk filosof, mystiker og socialt engageret skribent. Hun regnes ofte for at forbinde en skarp intellektuel analyse med en dybt alvorlig etisk og åndelig dimension, og hendes forfatterskab har haft varig betydning for både fransk og international tænkning om menneskelige vilkår, arbejde og forpligtelser over for andre. Værket L’Enracinement, som foreligger på fransk med titlen L’Enracinement, præsenterer hendes centrale idé om, at mennesker og samfund mister livskraft, når de løsriver sig fra rødderne—kulturelle, sociale og åndelige sammenhænge. Teksten blev først udgivet i 1949 hos Gallimard, og den blev tilskrevet hendes optagethed af déracinement (rodsløshed) og ønsket om en ny form for fællesskab og menneskelig værdighed. Efter hendes død blev flere af hendes skrifter udgivet og udbredt, hvilket bidrog til, at Weil fremstod som en af det 20. århundredes mest originale stemmer i litterær og filosofisk essayistik samt i moral- og religionsfilosofisk prosa.
