Forfatterbiografi

Samuel Beckett (1906–1989) var en irsk forfatter og dramatiker, kendt for at forny modernistisk fortællekunst og teater i anden halvdel af det 20. århundrede. Han arbejdede på tværs af romaner, noveller, poesi og drama og skabte et særligt formsprog præget af stilhed, reduktion og en dybtgående undersøgelse af menneskets vilkår. Beckett står som en central skikkelse i den litterære modernisme og har haft varig betydning for både prosaens og scenekunstens udvikling. I Nobelprisens begrundelse blev hans forfatterskab fremhævet for at udvide novel og dramas muligheder gennem nye former, hvor moderne menneskers afmagt får kunstnerisk ophøjelse. Beckett modtog Nobelprisen i litteratur i 1969.
