Roger Scruton

Forfatterbiografi

Roger Scruton (27. februar 1944–12. januar 2020) var en engelsk filosof, forfatter og samfundskritiker. Han skrev på tværs af filosofi, æstetik og politisk tænkning, men også inden for litterære former som essays og fortællinger, hvor hans interesse for menneskelig erfaring og moralens sprog ofte træder frem. Scruton var særlig kendt for sine konservative perspektiver, især i forhold til kunstens og skønhedens betydning samt forsvaret for kulturelle og historiske traditioner som noget, der former menneskers fællesskab. Han udgav mere end fyrre bøger og forbindes internationalt med både akademisk og offentlig intellektuel formidling. Blandt hans titler er blandt andet A Short History of Modern Philosophy og værker om kunst og kultur. Litterært og fagligt fik han også anerkendelse: han blev valgt som fellow af British Academy i 2008, og han var desuden fellow af Royal Society of Literature.
