Forfatterbiografi

Noam Chomsky (født 7. december 1928 i Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) er en amerikansk teoretisk lingvist og offentlig intellektuel, kendt for både banebrydende forskning i sprog og omfattende samfunds- og udenrigspolitiske skrifter. Han har været central i den såkaldte kognitive revolution inden for lingvistik, hvor sproget forstås som knyttet til menneskets medfødte kognitive kapacitet. Chomsky har gennem sit arbejde haft stor betydning for både lingvistik og beslægtede fag som kognitionsvidenskab. Hans forfatterskab spænder bredt mellem akademiske studier og polemisk-politisk debat. Et eksempel er Rogue States: The Rule of Force in World Affairs, der behandler magtpolitik og internationale forhold gennem en kritisk analyse af staters brug af tvang og vold. Som anerkendelse for sin forskningsindsats har Chomsky modtaget flere internationale priser, herunder Kyoto-prisen i grundlæggende videnskab (1988) og Benjamin Franklin-medaljen (1999).
