Forfatterbiografi

Mikhail Afanasjevitsj Bulgakov (1891–1940) var en sovjetisk forfatter, dramatiker og novelleforfatter kendt for sin humor og gennemtrængende satire. Han blev født i Kiev i det Russiske Kejserrige (nutidens Ukraine) og døde i Moskva i Sovjetunionen. Bulgakov skrev både prosa og scenetekster og skildrede ofte et grotesk, realistisk og samtidig eventyrligt univers, hvor politisk kritik og folkelig fantasi smelter sammen. Særligt hans roman Den Mester og Margarita (The Master and Margarita), som blev skrevet over en længere periode og først udkom efter hans død, regnes i dag som hans hovedværk og som en markant skikkelse i den moderne russiske litteratur. Romanen kombinerer komik med mørk satire og genfortæller motivkredse omkring tro, magt og ansvar i en form, der har gjort den til et klassisk referencepunkt for senere forfattergenerationer.
