Forfatterbiografi

Martha C. Nussbaum (født 6. maj 1947) er en amerikansk filosof og offentlig intellektuel. Hun har sin faste akademiske stilling som Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Ethics ved University of Chicago, hvor hun arbejder på tværs af jura, etik, klassicisme, feminisme og forbindelserne mellem filosofi og litteratur. Hendes forskning udvikler blandt andet et “capabilities approach” til retfærdighed og undersøger, hvordan følelser, sårbarhed og moralsk vurdering griber ind i både politisk teori og retlige principper. Nussbaum regnes som en markant stemme i den angloamerikanske tradition for normativ moral- og politisk filosofi, men hun giver også en litterært inspireret læsning af klassiske tekster og kulturelle genrer som centrale redskaber til at forstå menneskelig værdighed og socialt fællesskab.
