Forfatterbiografi

Jean Iris Murdoch (født 15. juli 1919 i Dublin, død 8. februar 1999 i Oxford) var en irskfødte britisk romanforfatter og filosof. Hun blev især kendt for psykologiske romaner, hvor moralske og eksistentielle spørgsmål smeltes sammen med komik og skarpe observationer af menneskelige relationer. Murdoch skrev både skønlitteratur og filosofisk-orienterede tekster, og hendes forfatterskab spænder fra realistiske fortællinger til mere fabulerende, stilistisk ambitiøse værker. Hendes gennembrud og fortsatte succes knyttes ofte til romaner, der undersøger kærlighed, selvbedrag og etisk ansvar. Blandt de mest fremhævede titler er The Sea, the Sea, som hun vandt Booker Prize for i 1978, samt The Black Prince, der modtog James Tait Black Memorial Prize.
