Forfatterbiografi

Ellis Peters var et britisk forfatterpseudonym for Edith Mary Pargeter (28. september 1913 – 14. oktober 1995). Hun skrev på tværs af genrer, men er især kendt for historiske kriminalromaner, hvor læseren møder mordgåder integreret i et levende middelaldermiljø. Under navnet Ellis Peters skabte hun en række fortællinger om den walisiske benediktinermunk og undersøger Brother Cadfael, som blev grundlæggende for hendes ry som forfatter af “historical mystery”. Hendes arbejde forbandt spændingsfortælling og historisk atmosfære og gjorde genren markant mere tilgængelig for et bredt publikum. Ellis Peters’ betydning ses også gennem de priser, hun modtog: Hun fik en Edgar Allan Poe Award fra Mystery Writers of America i 1963 for Death and the Joyful Woman. Hun modtog desuden Crime Writers’ Association’s Silver Dagger for Monk’s Hood i 1980.
