Edith Wharton (født 24. januar 1862 i New York, USA; død 11. august 1937 ved Saint-Brice-sous-Forêt nær Paris) var en amerikansk forfatter, bedst kendt for sit realistiske og skarpt iagttagende forfatterskab om overklassens liv og moralske koder. Hendes værker spænder især over romaner og noveller, hvor hun undersøger status, ægteskabelige strategier og de sociale mekanismer, der former menneskers muligheder. Wharton debuterede som fortæller med kortprosa, men slog for alvor igennem som romanforfatter med værker, der fastholdt samtidens psykologiske spændinger og de sociale omkostninger ved at leve efter uskrevne normer.
