Forfatterbiografi

Colm Tóibín (født 30. maj 1955) er en irsk forfatter, kendt som romanforfatter, novellist, essayist, dramatiker og journalist samt som litterær kritiker. Han er født i Enniscorthy i grevskabet Wexford og har skrevet en lang række bøger, hvor han ofte vender tilbage til temaer som identitet, erindring, tab og de store fortællinger om kunst og tro. Tóibíns prosastil kendes især for dens psykologiske nærhed og for hans evne til at lade historiske og religiøse figurer træde frem gennem et nutidigt, præcist sprog. I romanen Marias Testament lader han Maria være fortælleren i en eftertænksom omfortolkning af Jesu mors perspektiv. Det knytter sig til Tóibíns bredere arbejde med genfortolkninger, hvor han både undersøger det intimes og sætter det ind i en større kulturel sammenhæng.
