Forfatterbiografi

Clarice Lispector (født 10. december 1920 i Chechelnyk, dengang i det russiske kejserrige; død 9. december 1977 i Rio de Janeiro) var en brasiliansk forfatter, kendt som en af det 20. århundredes mest betydningsfulde stemmer. Hun skrev især romaner og noveller og blev ofte fremhævet for sin eksistentielle og sprogligt eksperimenterende prosa, hvor indre erfaring, bevidsthed og det uforklarlige sættes i centrum. Hendes forfatterskab fik hurtigt en afgørende plads i brasiliansk litteratur, og værker som debuten Near to the Wild Heart (Perto do coração selvagem) blev belønnet med Graça Aranha-prisen i 1944. Et senere højdepunkt er The Apple in the Dark (A Maçã no Escuro), som udkom i 1961 og modtog Cármen Dolores Barbosa-prisen. Lispector arbejdede samtidig som journalist, og hendes brede produktion og vedvarende indflydelse har gjort hende til en moderne klassiker med international gennemslagskraft og et varigt aftryk på fortælleformer i både roman og novelle.
