Charlotte Brontë var en engelsk forfatter og digter, født den 21. april 1816 i Thornton i Yorkshire og død den 31. marts 1855 i Haworth i samme grevskab. Hun skrev især romaner, men udgav også poesi, og hendes litterære betydning hænger tæt sammen med den stærke psykologiske realisme og de sociale og moralske spændinger, som prægede hendes fortællinger. Brontë debuterede som romanforfatter under pseudonymet Currer Bell. Hendes mest kendte roman er Jane Eyre, der udkom i 1847 (først offentliggjort som Jane Eyre: An Autobiography), og som hurtigt blev en af tidens store litterære begivenheder.
